If you are looking to become self-employed or are relatively new to self-employment, then this accredited course is for you. You may currently already be in business and looking to ‘pivot’. This SQA Level 4 therefore will allow you to make informed decisions to understand the viability of what you intend to do and allow you the comfort in appreciating the impact of any decision that you make.

What does it take to run a business?

That is a hard question to answer however our Accredited SQA Level 4 qualification in Starting in Business could allow you to begin to reach the answers you need.

As the author of this qualification, David Christie FCMI will take you through the need to truly understanding the needs when writing your Business Plan, Marketing Plan and Financial Plan so that should you be looking to start a new business or indeed looking to pivot your business, then the opportunity for sustainability and growth within your chosen market sector, is enhanced.

Find out more about David Christie here.

What are the course objectives?

Market Research – for each participant to understand the sources of market intelligence when starting their business and to appreciate the importance of both primary and secondary research to validate their opportunity.

Meet the Entrepreneur – the goal to allow each budding entrepreneur to listen to an individual who has ‘been there and got the t-shirt’. To listen to the highs and lows and to be able to pose questions in support of their learning and development.

Finance – to appreciate the impact of what could happen should there be no good financial management in operating their business.

Case Studies – a key learning and development tool to analyse the reasons for business success and failure and to be able to highlight and recognise the cues. This is group work and will allow us to measure the influence that the sessions are having on their individual capabilities to start a business.

The Right Decision – to close the session with a clear appreciation of what is next and to recap on the learning from earlier sessions to take away, remember, and implement.

Assessment

Accreditation is awarded on verification of competency in the Business Plan and Financial Planning.
