Whether you are an experienced contractor or just starting out as a freelancer, your IPSE membership is a gateway to the best guidance, resources, and information to help you make your business a success.
If you have a burning question about working for yourself the IPSE website should be your first port of call. This is where we publish the latest news affecting the self-employed community and on our campaigning work, detailed reports in our Research Hub from our dedicated research team on the subjects affecting you, information about your membership benefits and our upcoming events. You can find up-to-date information about IR35 in the IR35 Hub and coronavirus support and advice in our Covid-19 Hub.
You will also be able to find the IPSE Library there, where we have collated the best of our guides, articles and resources to make sure you have all the information you need at hand.
IPSE membership also provides you with access to free, expert tax and legal advice through our helplines. Should you have a specific tax or legal question about your business, contract or engagement, we have two dedicated helplines: one for tax and contract questions, and one for legal advice.
The tax & contract helpline is staffed by a team of experts from our partners at Markel Tax who have extensive experience working with or for HMRC. They are on hand to answer any tax queries you have, including issues relating to VAT, IR35, income & corporation tax, NICs and any other area relating to UK tax.
The legal helpline gives you access to a team of trained solicitors who can answer general legal queries and advise on UK law. Areas covered by the legal helpline include intellectual property (including debt recovery), commercial advice, health and safety information and employment advice, among many others.
The helpline contact numbers are available to IPSE members in the ‘My IPSE’ area of the website.
If you want to know more about our campaigning work on issues such as late payment, IR35 and the tax system, you might like to contact our policy team. They can be reached by email at [email protected] and can answer questions you have about the lobbying work they’re doing and our policy positions on the issues that matter to you. IPSE fight tirelessly on behalf of our members and all UK freelancers, and our policy team are at the forefront of the battle.
We also host regular webinars on a range of subjects, including the impact of coronavirus on freelancers, using social media and staying productive, and CV writing for freelancers. You can see what we’ve got coming up and register for the next webinar here.
You may want to get advice directly from other self-employed people and with the IPSE Community and our sister company Freelance Corner, you can.
Your IPSE membership gives you access to our Member’s forum where you can chat with IPSE members and staff about whatever is on your mind and, in Freelance Corner, we have created a unique community for freelancers to interact, collaborate and share ideas. So, if you want guidance from someone who has been where you are, or you want to share best practice with your peers, you can sign up here for a free account.
